7 easy outfits: Pregnant or bloated, exhausted, hungover and feeling a bit 'meh'.
And some thoughts from me on getting dressed while (heavily) pregnant...
I've been finding it hard to write this newsletter lately. I haven't felt inspired by what I'm wearing or thinking. I'm in the final weeks of pregnancy, so deciding what to wear is led by comfort and what I can still squeeze into more than a stylistic choice. But I think that is all part of it. There are times in our lives when our bodies, work, schedules, budgets, daily activities, weather and geographic location dictate how we dress. It is, however, all part of the many seasons we encounter. The challenge of staying true to one's personal style in pregnancy when your body is rapidly shapeshifting, achy, spotty, lumpy, bumpy and with newfound "ripples", as Rhianna describes the cellulite that often takes over one's thighs in the third trimester, is the constant grappling between what you will want to wear, what you can wear and what won't cut off the circulation.
The best way I can make sense of dressing while pregnant is that you will not lose your taste or personal style, but your preference for what to wear may not be an option, and this may leave you a little bamboozled as to what to put on. My body shape has entirely changed – my breasts are already two sizes larger, my waist was once a favourite part of my body and now no longer exists, my ankles are gone, and well, let's say Rhi is right about those ripples – all of which have made it an impossible task to fit into most of my most-worn pieces at this late stage in pregnancy. I want to also point out that unless you have access to the resources (money, time, gifting and tailoring every piece to fit perfectly) of a celebrity mum-to-be, dressing like yourself or as impeccable as Mrs Bieber (or our Margot) who has not missed a stylish beat, dressing like a celebrity when pregnant is aspirational at best – still, I enjoy seeing the shift from disguising our bellies to centring our outfits around them.
I am pregnant and feeling very meh, and I think the 'meh' feeling is universal. I've felt bloated from indulging in a little too much cheese/bread/wine, on my period, burnt out, hungover, or all of the above. So, I have compiled 7 outfits that may fit the bill for those who are heavily pregnant like me and those craving comfort and style with minimal effort.
For when you have to work but stayed up until 2am watching the Olympics…
Assembly cashmere knit (Sara Crampton had the grey version on the other day and it looked perfectly slouchy and felt deliciously soft / Pants / Glasses / Pandora Gold Bangle / Hoop earrings / A.Emery Sandals / Chanel Healthy Glow
Hungover but your friends are forcing you to go to brunch….
Cartier Tank watch (more purse-friendly option here) / Ralph Lauren Denim Shirt / SLVRLAKE Jeans (another option on sale) or if you are pregnant then get the ilouity maternity jeans… I have zero regrets / Arket mesh shoes you see everywhere (I bought the Zara version for half the price) / Oribe texture spray to give your hair a bit of life / Le Specs Sunglasses to hide your sins / Naghedi Bag.
You’re exhausted but need a jumbo sized coffee and hoping to tire the kids out…
Hourglass tint (looks like your skin but better and glowier) / Leset Tee and matching pants because it’s a no brainer / Blanca trench coat (you could literally wear your pajamas underneath and not a soul would know, that is until your kids outs you!) / Dorsey Huggies for a little spice / a classic Ralph Lauren Cap / Nike sneakers - the brown looks great with navy.
When you’re bloated from the wine and pizza you devoured last night but you’re wide awake, it’s a sunny Sunday and your kids slept over at their grandparents so your partner forces you to get up and make the most of the day…
La Ligne NYC Polo / Bassike slouch jeans (if pregnant or want an elastic waist try these) / A spritz of Chanel No.5 to cover the garlic seeping from your pores / Mui Mui sunglasses / Classic Vans sneakers.
When you’re pre-menstrual and the last thing you want to do is the groceries but the farmers markets are your church…
Posse shirt (also like this short sleeve blouse and both are currently on sale) / Faithfull The Label pants / Rational tinted serum SPF50+ / Lack Of Colour hat to hide if you’re not in the mood to chat / ALC raffia bag / Mango fisherman sandals.
You’ve taken a mental health day so you’re headed to the library to sit on the floor, sip your coffee and read something to lift your mood.
Luv Lou sunglasses / Witchery oversized shirt / St Agni chocolate brown bag / Harris Tapper irving trouser (I have three pairs! Think The Row Gala but purse-friendly) / AB Rich cream (treat yourself!) / Vibi Slippers to cuddle your feet.
It’s Friday and you just can’t be bothered to cook, the kids are feral so pizza in the park it is…
H&M slip dress / COS Tee / A-Esque Reversible Sack in red leather/tan suede / Le Spec sunglasses / A-Esque tan crossbody bag / Saint Laurent Le Loafer / Lie Studio hoops / Fenty lip oil.

Days Postpartum!!
This is so fun and is making me nostalgic about the last year and a bit. I pretty much wore looks one, three and six on rotation towards "the end". Gold hoops, dark glasses or bright lipstick became important to balance out the bump. And a loose knitted maxi dress became a winter staple if I ever had to leave the house, as did loosely laced trainers to slide on. These days the baseball cap hides PP regrowth around my hair line... if you have ideas on how to deal with that I'm all ears.
I'm guessing from some of these picks that you are in Aus somewhere?
