An Interview With Lenn The Label.
First up, some shameless self-promotion as I really found this interview to make me think about why I over-share so much when it comes to motherhood as well as honestly around what it takes to juggle career, motherhood and creative endeavours (childcare - which is a surprise to no one!). Fred also got gifted this really cute outfit that is now on sale.
‘They Really Wanted to See My Baby Get Taken Away’ By Irin Carmon for NY Mag.
An uncomfortable (albeit important) read that is very telling of the state of America and what life has been like for American women and mothers. “I think at the heart of this case and so many of the cases we’re seeing is that hospitals are prioritizing what they see as the needs of the fetus over the rights and the needs and choices and autonomy of pregnant women.”
Court Orders Woman's Ex-Husband to Pay Her $215K for 25 Years of Housework During Their Marriage, People Magazine.
As far as I know, this story was originally covered by People Magazine, but it’s since been doing the rounds, and rightly so. Though it’s not quite what she is owed for 25 years of marriage, it feels like a step in the right direction for the world to recognise housework as work.
This one is for the hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) ladies. HG affects about 3.6% of Australian women. It is something I did not experience firsthand, but one of my dear friends suffers from it, which causes her to be hospitalised multiple times throughout her pregnancy, taking early leave from work and spending most of her days in bed. This piece shares Dr Fejzo’s story with HG and dedicates her life’s work to this disease as she lost a child 15 weeks into her pregnancy because her illness was misdiagnosed and dismissed – an all too common story. ‘“My doctor pretty much thought it was all in my head,” Dr. Fejzo said. He told her that women make themselves sick during pregnancy to gain the sympathy of their husbands and, later, that her illness was a ploy for attention from her parents, who were helping with her medical care.’

The Anti-Diet By Christie Harrison.
I’m embarking on the very large and uncomfortable journey of unlearning diet culture, and this book has been incredible to listen to while I’m out for my walk. Christie is a journalist and registered dietician, and this book dissects diets and trends throughout history and basically why dieting is not effective for most in the long term. Not for everyone, but I’m finding it informative and thought-provoking from both a personal point of view while offering science-based evidence and insights.
CUTE & #GIFTED –
Bondi Wash x May Gibbs Bedtime Box.
When Ali, a mother part of the DD community from MCMPR, got in touch about this special edition of the highly covetable Australian brand Bondi Wash, I just really couldn’t resist. I found myself feeling every bit nostalgic towards May Gibbs, and I even confessed to playing the role of Ragged Blossom in a school play (etched in my mind, probably because of my irrational fear of public speaking). The packaging is beautiful, as is the scent of native florals – a great gift when you’re not sure what to get or a lovely treat for bathtime at home. It also comes with a May Gibbs book for bedtime that is short and sweet (and one you won’t get sick of!).
BOUGHT –
Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Complexion Drops, from Mecca.
This tiny bottle of sorcery has been all over social media, and I really doubted the hype as I have some redness and suffer the odd breakout and hyper-pigmentation from said breakouts, but I was searching for something for daytime that I could apply over my sunscreen that evened out my skin without looking like I was wearing makeup, and I’m please to say that Gucci Westman’s drops really hit that brief. It is quite glowy, so if you’re a more oily skin type, then this may not suit but highly recommend heading into Mecca and asking to try it on to see for yourself. The price tag is exxy, but you do only need a few drops.
Have you tried any of the above, or do you have a recommendation of what to read or listen to? Comment below.
Great recommendations! I am interested in reading the anti diet book!
