Recs: Lacy tops, $70 Tibi jeans dupe to wear to work and the playground, a chunky gold bangle, is stress contagious, the fake Tiktok Dr, and being a rock in a river.
A break from the news cycle: What I read, watched, listened to and shopped lately.
I’m sharing some unsolicited recommendations – the things I’ve read or bought, tried, enjoyed and think you would too. Disclaimer: I take my recommendations seriously, and I may make a small commission from links and some items may be gifted, but if they are shit, they won’t make the list.
After heavy world events, writing this trivial newsletter feels somewhat idiotic so consider this a break for your brain – and also consider yourself lucky (I know I do) to be able to take a break in such unfathomable times. There’s no links to articles or opinions on the state of the world but to things that made me feel good and I thought may also do the same for you. The only words I have for you is to be careful what you consume, to be kind and compassionate to all and model that to your kids. Our children will soon grow up and a world that feels as though it is becoming less and less humane by the day needs more minds that think and act for humanity as whole not just as individuals.

Shameless Podcast - The best advice we’ve ever received.
Most of you (especially if you’re Australian!) are probably Shameless fans, but this short and sweet episode came out today and I had to add it to the newsletter because it just made me feel good! It’s timely not only because their new book, 4am is out now, but as we all feel a little overwhelmed and lost for words. Mich’s mantra, ‘Be a rock in a river’, really blew my mind.
This episode is very long but very, very good. If you like learning about the human body, what stress does to us, how and why we are and function the way we do then this one you might enjoy this too. There is a part that is about 40 minutes in that really stood out for me because this is exactly how I have been feeling. The pandemic changed all of us, even if we think we are ‘back to normal’. Dr Tara explains; “the health anxiety, the fear and the loss that we experienced during the pandemic was bad enough… but we’ve come out of it it… in the new normal and we have not paid any attention to the consequences of what happened to us and when I say us I mean everyone from the babies that were born at that time that never saw anyone except their immediate family, the teenagers, interestingly boys did better than girls because they play video games on the internet so they stayed connected… the older people that were isolated, the people who lost loved ones etc there’s so many things… we haven’t really acknowledged that that’s what happened and what we went through. Most people are not really understanding what’s changed for them or what’s going on for them at the moment as a result for that and we certainly haven’t made any plan for the future.”

Sad beige kids clothes aren’t going anywhere by
This did give me a giggle for multiple reasons. For one, my son screamed at me the other day “I don’t want to wear a white t-shirt!” And it both made me laugh and die a little on the inside because I love him in white t-shirts (the cotton ones that are around $2.50 from Kmart make up his base wardrobe) and if I’m honest, beige. He does however have ‘fun’ pieces that are colourful and of course, we’ve entered our superhero era. Our generation of mothers in particular have said no to kitsch kids clothing in a bid to push our own preferences in aesthetics onto our kids but as DeRoche the woman behind @sadbeige points out; “Children are the definition of camp, truly. They don't have any taste. It's not adult — it's children's taste. So, not even bad. It's just bad in the eyes of adults who have adapted a more traditional, socially acceptable aesthetic. And when you're wealthy, you can afford to basically curate your entire life to look a certain way, and that includes your children.”
A Woman Pretending To Be A Doctor On TikTok Has Been Convicted.
I wanted to give our minds a break from the news cycle, but I feel this is an important story to share to remind us how critical it is to make sure any medical advice you are seeking online is by an accredited health professional. I’ve written about the possible dangers of trusting the wrong “experts” on social media and how easy it is to do so when you are in a state of isolation, sleep deprivation and desperation (or if you’re a new parent, all of the above). Dalya Karezi, a woman from Sydney (feels even more alarming that it is a local case), who has no formal medical qualifications, pretended to be a Doctor, even going as far as to dress up in scrubs and a stethoscope to give out advice, mainly woman’s health advice, to her 243,000 followers. I’m afraid this isn’t the first and won’t be the last, in a world where misinformation is rife, and it is increasingly more and more difficult to tell what and who is real or not.
ADD TO CART –
I have done a little or quite a lot of shopping lately, but in my defence it was my birthday and I mostly like to buy my own gifts or send the links (yes, I’m terrible and Libran!). But moving on, here’s a few items I bought and I am obsessed with.
This 100% cotton and lace top is so beautiful and kind of sexy but pretty and summery and just a little bit fun. I also bought the matching pants as I needed a pair of what elastic waist pants for the warmer months. I teamed this with some surprisingly flattering white jeans.
And now the bangle! Chunky gold bangles are having a serious moment and this one from Aje was an impulse buy that I have zero regrets about. It’s weighty which makes it feel luxe, and I’m not normally one to go for logos but I really love the embossing – a statement without screaming it, and I think this would look chic over the sleeve of a black knit or crochet dress.
I wore this all black outfit to dinner and it may be my favourite outfit of all-time. I paired the most exquisite lace cami from local brand Maison Essentiele (preorder, but this style and the dress version is equally as divine) with the pants I non-stop rave about that you can wear with almost anything, t-bar sandals, and this great blazer (size up) for under $200.
These jeans are from Zara and they are serving serious Tibi vibes. I sized up so they hung just right. The balloon leg I would argue looks great on everyone and they hit just at my ankle. I paired with my Oroton poplin shirt, Heaven & Mayhem earrings which you can now buy here in Australia and the Dragon Diffusion Santa Croce weaved leather tote that you’ve probably seen and it is truly a work of art. I want to also add that I have fallen victim to the mesh shoe trend mainly because I spotted these authentic The Row on eBay. I enjoy how mesh shoes add some interest to an otherwise pretty stock standard outfit and do not care one bit that my husband thinks I look like Scooba Steve when I wear them.

I am very curious if the mesh shoes feel hot? I had some beaded mules similar when I was late teens/early 20s and can remember them not breathing well on hot days despite the mesh... 🤔
Love a mesh flat 🥰 and equally loved the beige baby article 🤣 thanks for cheering me up xx
