Recs: What I wore in Melbourne and not a legging in sight...
And thoughts on my impending deadline (birth) and priorities.
I have been very mindful of trying to not over-do-it but I can’t help but to feel slightly stressed by the looming deadline that is the birth of my second son. I know, I know, life is not over post-kids and that it will do me some good to surrender rather than distract or redact myself from the early stages of being mum. I am nervous. Not of the birth, but of the leaning out of me in order to lean into him. Well, into them as my eldest will need me a lot too.
I do in fact, regret that I did not lean into motherhood as much as I could have the first time. I was afraid of change, evolution and losing myself which, news flash: fighting against the tide only made it harder to find my way back.
One of the positives of doing something for the second time is that you have the advantage of hindsight. I have always said that experience breeds intuition and having an understanding of what I don’t want to do/feel/be this time around makes the hazy first few months feel less daunting. I know what to prioritise (I’m speaking of course aside from the baby) and that is myself, my health both mental and physical, and the tools I need in place to help me feel at my best. One obvious one and probably the most important thing I need to put in place this time that I lacked last time are boundaries. Boundaries with my time – rest, writing, exercise and just lapping up time with my little family.
Speaking of priorities, I’m now 25.5 weeks pregnant and have hardly done a slither of exercise aside from walking as it has not been a priority but moving forward from here, I am officially making it a priority as after my first child, it took me years to get back into any kind of routine and feel good about myself. After a DM conversation with personal trainer and mobility coach, Amy Carmody, I realised it’s never too late to start and my post c-section self will thank me for it. I have always had a complicated relationship with my body, and again, I guess it is becoming more apparent as that birth deadline creeps closer, I know how I do not want to feel.
Anyway, I almost forgot why we’re all here and that is my latest edit, what I wore in Melbourne which generally is what I would wear here in Sydney as the weather gets colder but when you take a trip anywhere, has a way of prioritising (there I go again) the items I like to wear for reasons of style and function.
I’m trying a new layout so any feedback or thoughts, please let me know!
AIRPORT –
I took most of my photos in the hotel and in this shot (excuse the creases!) I have nothing new. My blazer is a few years old and my sweat pants are American Vintage which I have raved about before and are quite hard to find here in Australia.
A classic blue shirt is hard to go past and works perfectly with grey tones which I find myself gravitating towards this season. Being pregnant, I would normally style a shirt open with a more fitted tank or tee underneath but the tailored blazer adds some shape and structure to an otherwise relaxed outfit. The soft cup bra is a new edition and I had the pleasure of a #gifted bra fitting experience along with my chosen pieces with Intimo which came in handy as most of my old bras were strangling my ribs and were two sizes too small. Emma Lewisham products which have been great for putting life and hydration back into my preggo skin.
PARK –
The weather was perfect. It was sunny and I even took my knit off at one point. We may have been in a different state does not mean the routine changed all that much. Freddie and I tagged along on my husband’s work trip and when he was at conferences we kept ourselves busy with all the usual activities including urban parks, Legoland, Melbourne Zoo (which was great!) and Freddie’s favourite - the hotel pool ha.
SHOPPING/EXPLORING ETC –
I wish I could tell you we went to the gallery but the nearest we got were the bathrooms while waiting for the bus to Legoland. Excuse the loo in the background but this is the only shot I I have of these great pants that I need to get taken up. Even though they have a button and zip fly, the waistband is stretchy. The description says “high-waisted” but I sized up so they can sit comfortably under my belly.
DINNER OUTFITS –
One night we just ate dinner at the pub, one of the restaurants in the hotel, and ordered Uber Eats twice. One of the night’s I did get dressed (in the beautiful black knit dress on the left) and we were on our way there only for Freddie to become unwell with a fever and cold symptoms ha. I’m sure there is a lesson somewhere to do with patience or expectations. So I wore that dress to the chemist then back to the hotel to devour a delicious wood fire pizza in my robe. Very “on brand” as my good friend said.
